Help Us Preserve Mackinac Island’s Horse Culture
Your membership helps the Mackinac Horsemen's Association maintain an operating equestrian facility, the Mackinac Community Equestrian Center, on 3.2 acres of the Mackinac Island State Park. The facility is open year round and open to the public 7 days per week May- Oct. 9am-5pm or by appointment Nov. - April.
The community stable serves locals, summer residents and Island visitors by providing a personal experience with horses. We have established a museum honoring the horse on Mackinac, we give horseback riding lessons to the public, educational clinics, events and fundraisers. The Mackinac Horsemen's Association and the Mackinac 4-H Horse Club have forged a 25 year partnership educating local youth in a year round program. MHA supports the 4-H program by providing the facility and the lesson horses. Please join MHA today to celebrate Mackinac Island’s horse history, engage in today’s equine culture, and help preserve our unique environment for future generations. Your donation will support educational programming, MHA’s 4-H program, community events, the well being of our horses, and the Mackinac Community Equestrian Center (MCEC) as a venue for people of all ages to learn about and experience horses.
Mission Statement
The Mackinac Horsemen’s Association, in recognition of the unique ordinance of 1898 banning the “horseless” carriage on Mackinac Island, is dedicated to the promotion, education and future of horses and horsemanship on Mackinac Island and throughout the State of Michigan.
Adopt A Horse Program ($5000 full)
We treasure our horses as part of the MHA family and care for them year round here on the Island. We pay for annual vet checks, vaccinations, worming, dental work, hoof care, feed and hay. Donors offering extra support to help care for our horses will be permanently recognized with a horseshoe plaque on a wall at MCEC and the funds will be put into an MHA fund designated for horse care.
