4-H Lesson Horse Sponsorship Program

MHA has been the catalyst behind the Mackinac 4-H Horse Club Lesson Program since its inception in 1998. The 4-H Horse Club needed lesson horses, but could not own or maintain stabling for the program. MHA was created to fill that need by taking on finding safe lesson horses, the care of the horses and their stabling.

The Share-A-Lease and Lease-A-Horse programs were created to provide lesson horses for the 4-H program and help pay the bills. This program provides a practical and economical way for our Mackinac 4-H Horse Club families to have the 'horse ownership experience' without the year round expenses or lifelong commitment.

The program helps MHA offset the year round costs of MHA owned lesson horses, the costs of leasing lesson horses, liability insurance and facility costs. Whether or not the lesson horses are leased out through the Lease-a-Horse or Share-a-Lease programs, donated, on loan to the lesson program or are MHA's own horses, they are our responsibility. We are not a horse rescue, therefore we cannot solicit donations in that manner, but in many respects we do just that, because many of our lesson horses are at the ends of their careers, older horses with years of training, experience and lots of patience. They are part of the MHA/4-H family.

We need your 4-H Lesson Horse Sponsorship to continue to provide safe, quality horses for the 4-H Horse Club lesson program. Today it costs approximately $5,000.00+ per year to have a horse.

At this time we have 4 horses that are in need of sponsorship:

• Ginger Snap – a 13 hand, 25+ yr old POA mare
• Blaze – a 13.5 hand, 18+ yr old Haflinger gelding
• Prancer – a 14 hand, 25+ yr old Arab/QH gelding
• Stuck on Fiona – A 14.5 hand, 10+ yr old Morgan cross mare

Your full sponsorship includes the year round care of one 4-H lesson horse including vet care, farrier, dental care, insurance and board @ $5,000.00.

For your sponsorship you will receive a photo, quarterly updates and special recognition with a plaque with your name at the MCEC and your sponsorship recognized at events.

A half sponsorship is as described above @ $2,500.00. For your half sponsorship you will receive a photo, bi-annual updates and special recognition with your name on a list plaque at MCEC.

MHA has adopted the American Horse Council's NATIONAL WELFARE CODE OF PRACTICE.

Sponsorships are on a first come first service basis, your choice of a horse, if available.
